A Weekend in Barcelona

Barcelona

Barcelona is one of the most exciting cities in the world. It’s colorful and vibrant just like the people. Barcelona offers an eclectic mix of art, architecture and fantastic cuisine. There’s so much to see and enjoy, I promise you will never be bored. If you’re spending a few days in Barcelona here are a few of my favorite spots!

Go

In Barcelona, you have to visit Park Güell. There’s a bit of a hike getting up there but believe me it’s worth it. Güell is a beautiful park designed by Antoni Gaudí and it’s full of his mosaic work. It’s truly breathtaking. Once there, you can explore the gardens or just sit and relax. I especially love people watching. There are so many interesting people walking in the park.

See

My favorite things to see are the unique and colorful designs by Antoni Gaudí. His architecture is one of the many things that make Barcelona a city like no other. First Casa Batlló, I love the skeletal mask balconies, the building almost seems to come to life. This jewel-toned structure is a feast for the senses.

Gaudí’s most famous masterpiece is the church Sagrada Familia. There’s so much detail in its facade. I could have stared at it for hours, it’s really extraordinary. Another favorite is Casa Milà also known as La Pedrera. It’s quite impressive, there’s also fantastic views of the city from the top. Gaudí truly let his imagination run wild, his structures are always a must see.

Eat

There are so many amazing restaurants in Barcelona but my favorite place is Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria. La Boqueria a.k.a. Foodie Heaven is a large food market. It’s located on the famous Las Ramblas and dates all the way back to 1217.

There’s everything you can possibly imagine in this market. I wish we had markets like this in Miami. They have all kinds of fresh fruit, vegetables, meats and cheeses. And there’s enough candy and chocolate to satisfy any sweet tooth. I highly recommend the smoothies and juices, there are many to choose from and always made fresh.
