Extra Virgin: Recipes & Love from Our Tuscan Kitchen

ExtraVirgin Book Cover Final

Tuscan Gun and then some.

Extra Virgin is my favorite cooking show. I’m obsessed with it and when I found out Debi Mazar and Gabriele Corcos were coming out with a cookbook I was thrilled. I’m a big fan of Debi Mazar. Goodfellas, Jungle Fever and Girl 6 just to name a few of my favorites. She’s an incredible actress, I see her and think Alabama Worley “You’re so cool.” And she is and so is Gabriele Corcos. I follow him on Instagram (@thetuscangun) His food pics are insane. Now on to the cookbook…

To begin both Debi and Gabriele are absolutely hilarious and amazing storytellers. The anecdotes they share are delightful and such a nice compliment to the recipes. The book is filled with big colorful photographs; the food looks so good you want to lick the page.

My husband and I went to Tuscany a few years back, it’s so beautiful there and the food is out of this world. The dish I remember fondly was Pappa al Pomodoro. Pappa al Pomodoro is a rustic soup made with bread, tomato and good olive oil. It was heavenly. I tried Extra Virgin’s Tuscan Bread and Tomato Soup and I immediately felt like I was back in Tuscany.

Extra Virgin starts with The Tuscan Kitchen Essentials where they include a list of pantry items and recommendations. I love seeing this in cookbooks; it can be so helpful when putting together a shopping list. It covers Appetizers, Pasta and Sauces, Risotto, Soups, Salads, Meat, Fish, Vegetables, Pizza, Panini, Desserts and Drinks. This is a well-rounded cookbook and there isn’t a single recipe I don’t want to try.

Some of my favorite recipes are Pasta alla Norma “Nuda” if you like eggplant this is for you. Lasagne Alla Bolognese, Pici All’Aglione, this dish is a garlic lovers dream. Hunter’s Chicken and Spagehtti Alla Puttanesca, I loved that Debi described the dish as energy food for the ladies of the night. If you need to whip something up fast the Grilled Mozzarella Sandwich, Pecorino and Honey Dip and Heirloom Tomato Burrata Caprese are scrumptious. And finally Red Sauce and Spaghetti, it’s so simple yet so perfect, you won’t touch that jar stuff ever again.

If you love Tuscan cuisine you need this cookbook in your life. It’s truly exceptional.

Enjoy!
