Eat, Pray, Love…repeat.

Travel Diary | Positano, Italy

Today’s post is a little flashback to Positano. Positano is a cliffside village on Italy’s Amalfi Coast. After lots of research and reading rave reviews, we had to see this place for ourselves. Everywhere you turn there’s a gorgeous view. We arrived on a boat from Capri, and as you can see from the photos, we weren’t disappointed. If you’re planning a visit, here are a few suggestions to make the most of your trip!

Stay
Al Barilotto Del Nonno Hotel and Restaurant

Al Barilotto Del Nonno

We stayed at Al Barilotto Del Nonno. It’s a charming Bed and Breakfast located outside the town center, it’s very peaceful. I loved that we were away from all the traffic. The room had an incredible view of the Mediterranean sea. Giovanni and his family were so kind to us. They were warm and welcoming. They wanted us to have the best experience possible.

The price was reasonable and they offer shuttle service to Positano, which is a plus. Al Barilotto Del Nonno is also a restaurant. The food was excellent! More on that below. We really enjoyed our stay, I highly recommend it.

Ristorante Al Barilotto Del Nonno

Even if you stay at another hotel or B&B, I still recommend eating at the Ristorante Al Barilotto Del Nonno. Although it was convenient for us because we were guests of the hotel, the food is amazing. Everything is homemade and they offer a different menu every night. The antipasto was scrumptious. The family even serenaded us with ‘O sole mio. Giovanni and Maria were the most gracious hosts and served us a delicious meal.

Casa e Bottega

Another recommendation is Casa e Bottega. If you want fresh, local ingredients you can’t beat this place. Their juices and smoothies are to die for. They take the time to prepare the meals (Instagram worthy pics for sure). Most importantly, you’re getting seasonal, quality ingredients and it’s evident in the flavor of the food.

Go

Ravello, Italy

Go on a day trip to Ravello; it’s magical. It has the best view of Amalfi Coast you will ever see. We took a bus to the town of Amalfi, which is worth a visit as well and from there we took a bus to Ravello.

If you can try to catch a concert. Ravello is famous for their classical music concerts. Sadly, we didn’t have time, but I hear the shows are wonderful. While there we visited Villa Rufolo, a villa known for its breathtaking gardens & terraces. The views are spectacular. It’s like a fairy-tale, the kind of place you want to get lost in. There are a ton of gift & Specialty Shops and plenty to see, I made sure to grab some Gelato first to give me strength.

Experience

The best way to experience Positano is by exploring it. Take the time to walk around and breath the fresh air. Be sure to check out the markets; they have tons of local, fresh fruits and vegetables. The colors are just beautiful and there’s nothing like smell of fresh fruit. You can even find unexpected hidden treasures. Even the houses have their own personality and quirks.

I always like to stop by a local church when visiting a different country. The Church of Santa Maria Assunta with its majolica tiled dome is one Positano’s most important sites. There’s a Byzantine painting of a Black Madonna above the altar that’s quite moving.
