All About Brows

My mom always had perfect eyebrows, still has to this day. She’s retired now but when she was working as beautician her specialty was manicure, pedicure and eyebrows. Even long after she retired she had clients come to the house to get their brows done. She was so good. She makes the most stubborn brows look amazing. As for me, her daughter, she only had one rule: “No te toques las cejas!” In English, “Don’t touch your eyebrows!” And I didn’t. I didn’t start plucking and waxing until my late teens. Back then I didn’t care how my brows looked. I knew tweezing and waxing would hurt and I didn’t want any part of that. Beauty is pain but I wasn’t having it. Now things are different.

Here’s a little background on my eyebrows. I have two very stubborn sisters. I’m sure you’ve heard the expression, “They’re sisters, not twins.” These sisters hate each other. My eyebrows are the equivalent to the film What Ever Happened to Baby Jane? Here me out. One brow is pristine, manageable and perfectly tamed. The other is batshit crazy and impossible to deal with. She’s a hot unruly mess that refuses to stay in place. They’re totally asymmetrical. That being said I’m blessed with strong, thick eyebrows. I thank my mom who never allowed me to over pluck. I prefer a bushy brow. I’m so grateful to Cara Delevingne for reviving the Brooke Shields and Margaux Hemingway look that my mom always wanted for me.

Here are the products and tools I use to tame Blanche and Baby Jane Hudson…

Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Wiz in Brunette (Dark Brown.) I’m a big fan of Anastasia Beverly Hills and I adore the brow wiz, it’s a fabulous product. I feel every brow lover should have this. It’s very easy to use, so easy it’s fool proof. It’s long lasting and smudge-proof and they have a great color selection. Love it.

Anastasia Beverly Hills Tinted Brow Gel in Chocolate and Clear Gel. I really like the formula of their Tinted Brow Gel. The only problem is I hate the brush; it’s too big and dispenses way too much product. I love the Chocolate shade, it’s the best suited for my color. It has a bronzy gold shimmer running through the tube but it won’t show up on the brow. The Clear Brow Gel works great too. The brush dispenses too much product for my taste but it keeps brows in place. I’m sure you can find an alternative clear gel at a better price. The Maybelline Great Lash Clear Mascara is a great pick. It’s been around forever and it’s only six bucks.

Benefit Gimme Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel in Medium/Deep. This is another tinted brow gel I have on rotation. I always take this one with me when I travel, it’s awesome for on the go. I love the tiny brush and I love that it’s water resistant and long lasting. The downside is it only comes in two shades and it’s pricey for such small amount of product. However, I find that it lasts quite a bit. It’s a buildable formula but I only need one swipe to get the job done. The packaging of this product has changed. Benefit has come out with a new line of brow products I’m curious to try them out.

New to my stash is the Charlotte Tilbury Legendary Brows in Cara. I was so excited to hear Charlotte Tilbury was coming out with this product. I’m happy to report it’s my new favorite.  This is the brush I wanted the Anastasia Tinted Brow Gel to have. It’s a perfect size. And if you like that brushed-up editorial Vogue brow, this product will help you achieve it. According to the Charlotte Tilbury website it contains volumizing Magic Elasticizing Wax, Vitamin E, Castor Oil and natural pigments that lift and tint. It gives my brows texture while keeping them natural looking. Cara is the darkest shade perfect for dark brown to black hair. If you’re looking for a tinted brow gel look no further, it’s brilliant!

Revlon Tweezer. Many people prefer Tweezerman but these are excellent, I’ve been using them for years, they get the job done.

Conair Nose & Ear Hair Trimmer Power Razor. This is not meant for brows but I use this when I’m in a hurry and have few stray hairs I want to clean up. Hey, it works.

Spooly Brush. I bought this years ago and don’t remember the brand but you can pick these up at any beauty supply store. It’s great to clean off the excess after applying a heavy coat of brow gel and last Scissors to trim the long hairs.

What are some your favorite brow products?
