New Year, New Shoes.

January Favorites | 2018

Hi guys! I hope you had a wonderful month, I have to say January was amazing. Not only because my birthday is in January, but because there’s something wonderful about starting fresh and making new goals. I feel inspired and can’t wait to see what 2018 has in store.

There’s a little bit of everything for my first favorites of the year; skincare, body care, makeup, and a fashion favorite I refuse to take off.

Healthy makeup

Tata Harper Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tint in Very Charming

Getting healthy is a New Year’s resolution for many people. I’ve decided to do the same with makeup. I went on the hunt for some natural, organic makeup. I’m so pleased with the products this might actually be a New Year’s resolution I can keep.

First, the Tata Harper Volumizing Lip and Cheek Tint in Very Charming (0.15oz/$36.00). I’ve seen Violette use it on her channel and I love how it looked on her. The pigmentation is incredible. It gives a luminous pink flush to the cheeks and looks beautiful on lips too. And it smells just like bananas, which makes me happy.

The formula contains fruit extract and sunflower oil so it’s moisturizing and good for your skin. There are no artificial colors or fragrance and it’s free from synthetics and fillers. I can’t rave about this enough, it’s effortless makeup you don’t have to think about. It’s living in my makeup bag.

Next, the RMS Beauty Eye Polish in Imagine (0.15oz/$28.00). This was love at first sight. Look at the color, how could you not fall in love? RMS is another no nasties brand. It’s produced with raw, food grade and organic materials and it’s GMO, soy, and nano-free, cruelty-free. According to their website, “it doubles as an eye cream to nourish and moisturize the eye area.” And did you see the color? Sigh…

Imagine is a gorgeous metallic purple. In some lights, it looks maroon. It’s stunning and super light-reflective. I will say it doesn’t have longevity, it fades throughout the day. So if you’re looking for Maybelline Color Tattoo lasting power this won’t give you that. Personally, I don’t mind because the shade is so beautiful, and the formula is comfortable and nourishing for dry skin like mine.

The one face spray I needed.

Last month I bought the Clinique Moisture Surge Face Spray (4.2oz/$25.50). Why I did not get this sooner I will never understand. I use it before makeup, after makeup, all day long. It’s full of good stuff like Aloe and Vitamin E, it’s hydrating and feels refreshing on the skin. I’m a fan of the Moisture Surge line in general, this is a great addition.

The Lush Saucy Snowcake Soap was a Christmas gift from my dear friend and Capricorn sister Pamela. It’s only around for the holidays, but if you can get your hands on it I recommend it. It contains coconut oil, cocoa butter, organic clove, cashews, and cranberries. It’s really soothing, perfect for this cold weather and smells amazing!

In an effort to use what I have (another New Year’s resolution), I’ve decided to feature a ‘forgotten favorite’ every month. I pick one item from my beauty stash that I haven’t given love to or forgotten about and use it for the whole month.

This month it’s a nail polish, OPI Eiffel For This Color. I’ve fallen back in love with dark, vampy nails. And although you might think there are a million shades like this out there, this one is special. It’s part of OPI’s Paris collection, you may be able to find it on eBay.

The shoes

I’d be lying if I said these weren’t a favorite. The Gucci Leather Horsebit Slingback Loafer ($630.00). As I mentioned it was my birthday last month and these were a gift from my husband. The quality is just phenomenal, they’re so comfortable as they should be for the price. I love the sling back, it’s still classic but it gives the loafer a nice edge. As silly as it sounds I have to force myself to not wear them every day. I’m in love.

Bowie Kid

Finally, I want to share a documentary. It’s called David Bowie: The Last Five Years, it aired on HBO on his birthday (January 8). If you are a David Bowie fan this is a must-see. David Bowie meant so much to me and continues to mean so much, and when he died I was heartbroken. He is my favorite musician, my favorite artist. To me he was – he is art.

I grew up listening to his music, there were years I would listen to him every single day. I was so obsessed that in college I wrote a screenplay called the Bowie Kids about 4 teenagers who run away to see Ziggy Stardust’s last concert in the US. But I digress, the documentary is so insightful, and the music is out of this world. It talks about his life and death, and about goals and doing what he set out to accomplish. He is such an inspiration, I couldn’t stop crying afterward. It’s a wonderful documentary, I wholeheartedly recommend it.

If you’re a Bowie Kid too please let me know, and if you watch the documentary I would love to hear your thoughts.

I love the shoes so much and I’ve been contemplating buying a pair for a while now but I’m not really sure what I would wear them with during the colder seasons. Any ideas? x

      Hi there!
I actually contemplated getting the ones with the closed back, I thought I would get more use from them. However, I loved the slingbacks so much I couldn’t resist and I don’t regret it. They honestly go with anything, from jeans to trousers and leather jackets to long coats. I first saw these on Lizzy Hadfield (https://www.shotfromthestreet.com) She’s paired them with best outfits and she lives in London. Last time it was cold in Miami I wore them with some thick straight leg denim, a turtleneck, and coat and was pretty warm. I hope this helps, please let me know if you decide to get them and if you like them! xx M
