Hair Care Tailor-Made

Review | Prose Hair Care

Happy Sunday everybody! Today I have a review for you; Prose contacted me a month ago asking if I wanted to try some of their products. Now I’ve been using the majority of my hair products for years. I don’t normally explore other brands, but there’s something about Prose I find intriguing. They create a custom formula to suit your specific hair needs, and that to me is very exciting. I had to say yes!

My Hair

Before I jump in, I thought it would be helpful to share some background info on my hair. I have long thick wavy hair that’s dry and prone to dandruff. My hair routine consists of Shampoo and Conditioner; I rotate between the L’OrĂ©al EverCreme line and Oribe Gold Lust. And I use Brocato Peppermint Scrub Purifying Shampoo and Moroccanoil Treatment. Occasionally I’ll use a hair mask. Good hair oil is integral. I wash my hair once a week; it’s a system that works well for me, so dry shampoo is a must. I also use a heat protector and a leave-in conditioner spray.

I have some grays around my temple and use Clairol Root Touch-Up to cover them up. It’s cheap and easy to use without having to dye all my hair. If there’s a product that can prolong the color I would use it in a heartbeat.

What it does

Prose Hair Mask

Because these products are custom-made, the results are different for everyone. First, you’re asked to complete a survey. And it’s not just one or two questions; it’s a full consultation. They asked about the length, texture, and condition of your hair, whether it’s dry or oily. What is the texture of your natural hair when let air dry? Is it color treated? After washing, how long does it usually take to get oily again? They also asked several questions about my scalp.

Prose Hair Oil

Prose sent me a hair mask (8.5 oz/$38.00) to be used as a treatment before shampoo. It’s a highly-concentrated mask that targets your top hair or scalp needs. They also sent a shampoo (8.5 oz/$25.00) and conditioner (8.5 oz/$25.00), the shampoo is sulfate-free and helps with scalp buildup. The conditioner moisturizes without weighing hair down. I was most excited to receive their hair oil (1.7 oz/$48.00), which can be used as a treatment oil or as a finishing oil for styling. Quick disclaimer: Prose did not sponsor this post. The products were kindly gifted.

Ingredients

I’m most impressed with the ingredients they use. They’re all natural; simply good stuff that’s good for your hair. I’m familiar with a few; these are ingredients I feel comfortable using on my hair. The order comes with a sheet with details on your custom mix. It lists all the ingredients for each product and its benefits. Some of my ingredients are Plant Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid, Maca Root, and Sunflower Seed Extract.

Prose Hair Oil

The Hair Oil contains Acai Fruit Oil, which helps with color protection. It has Argan Oil for repair, Avocado Oil to repair split ends, and Plum Oil for Moisture. I love Plum Oil and use it consistently for intense hydration. I chose Ispahan fragrance with my set; it’s sweet and fruity. Prose products are free of parabens, sulfates, phthalates, mineral oils, GMOs, and cruelty-free. They can make your formula vegan, gluten-free, silicone-free, dye-free or fragrance-free based on your preference.

Review

Initial thoughts, the packaging is simple; there’s nothing luxurious about it. I like that the labels are personalized with my name; it’s a nice touch and appropriate being that it’s custom-made for me. The Hair Oil comes in a heavy glass bottle, and the dropper is designed with a reservoir at the bottom so the pipette can pick up every last drop of product. In terms of performance, I’ve used these products alone for a full month.

The Hair Mask wasn’t my favorite. I have a very dry scalp although the mask was conditioning, it weighed my hair down, and my hair felt heavy and dirty after two days. I might have used too much, but I’m much happier with the results when I don’t use the mask.

Prose Shampoo

The shampoo and conditioner are lovely. It nourishes my hair and leaves it soft and shiny. It’s not heavy or stripping; it’s the perfect balance for my hair type. All I need is one pump of the conditioner. It’s rich and moisturizing but doesn’t weigh my hair down. I have really knotty hair, and detangling my hair is a breeze after using these products. It leaves my hair bouncy and shiny.

Prose Hair Oil

Hair Oil is my favorite; it smells incredible! I love using it as a treatment once or twice a week I put two drops into my hair in the morning, and it leaves it feeling super healthy and nourished. And I also use it immediately after I wash my hair. I take one drop; message it through my ends to make it shiny and smooth; towel dry and the results are amazing. This oil will last a lifetime because you don’t need much at all. Best of all, no heat styling tool necessary.

Final Thoughts

Overall, I’m pleased with the line and recommend it. I appreciate that you can change the formula if it needs a little tweaking. In the end, we all strive for a routine that makes our hair healthy and strong. And a routine that makes it so using a heat styling tool is optional. I definitely got that from Prose.

Have you used Prose? If yes, I would love to know your thoughts!
