Pick Two | Hourglass

hourglass powder eyeliner What worked and what didn’t.

I’m starting a new series called Pick Two where I feature two items from a brand; one product that worked for me and one that didn’t work and why.

Good news first, the Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light (0.35oz/$46.00). Hourglass describes this as an opalescent sheer, cool white powder that mimics a moonlit glow. The Ambient Lighting powders come in six shades, I decided to go with Ethereal Light because I prefer a translucent powder. The texture is so lightweight and silky. I use it to set my undereye concealer. It doesn’t settle into fine lines and never looks dry or cakey.

As I mentioned in a previous post I’m not a big fan of powders, but this one works. I’ve heard Ethereal Light described as the magic powder and I truly believe it is. The name says it all. This will give you a beautiful lit from within glow that is flattering yet subtle. You’ll never go overboard with this powder. If you’re going to purchase one item from Hourglass I highly recommend the Ambient Lighting Powder in Ethereal Light.

The bad news

Unfortunately, the Hourglass item I didn’t care for is the 1.5 MM Mechanical Gel Eye Liner (0.002oz/$18.00). I really wanted to love this, but eyeliner shouldn’t be temperamental and this one is a pain in the ass. Granted, their disclaimer is clear: Do not dispense more than two clicks, the product is delicate and may break. I get it, but break on every single use? I just don’t have time for that. And I’m pretty light handed with my liner.

I do love how pigmented this is and I’m able to get a precise line, but it’s not a smooth application by any means. I really struggle with this liner; it tugs and goes on patchy. It also smudges when used on the waterline. Sadly, I won’t be repurchasing it. I think it’s a waste product and money. I’m going to try the Maybelline Eyestudio Master Precise Skinny Gel Pencil (0.004oz/$7.99), It’s similar to the Hourglass and hopefully, it will perform much better. I’ll keep you posted.

I hope you enjoyed this month’s Pick Two. If you have any suggestions or brands you would like me to cover please leave them in a comment below.
